Levels of Consciousness
1-conscious (normal)
2-conscious respond to call
3-Respond only to pain
4-No response to pain
How to check for consciousness
CALL___Shaking____Pinch ear lobule____check gag or cough reflex
2-Respiration
Normal values:
Adult: 12-20/min
Newborn: 40-50/min
3-Pressure
Normal range (90-140)/(60-90)
4-Pulse
Site: Radial, Carotid
In infant: Axillary, femoral, Iliac
Rate: 120-60 decrease with age
5-Pupil
-Dilated &Reactive (Alcohol)
Dilated Not Reactive (Atropine)-
-Unilateral Miosis (Ipsilateral cranial Hemorrhage)
-Bilateral Miosis (Pontine Hemorrhage, Morphine, Organophosphors)
6-Skin Color
-Normal pinkish
-Pale (shock)
Cherry red (co poisoning)-
-Blue Lips (Cyanosis, Asphyxia)
-Yellow Skin (Jaundice)
7-Temperature
-28-31 Death
-31-35 Spasm
-33-35 Tremors
-37 Normal
-37-42 Fever
